Onboarding
What your first weeks at Hardal look like, and what we expect from you and ourselves.
Starting a new job is disorienting. We want your first few weeks to feel structured without being overwhelming. Here's what to expect.
Before day one
We'll send you access to all the tools you need (Slack, Linear, Notion, Google Workspace) before you start. Your manager will send a short message explaining what the first week looks like.
If you have questions before you start, ask. Don't sit on them.
Your onboarding buddy - Linear
Every new Hardalian gets an onboarding buddy - Linear. Linear has all the tasks and information you need. Other than that, we don't believe in embarrassing questions. You can ask anything to anyone. You'll get an answer and guidance 100%.
Week one
The goal of week one is orientation, not output. Don't worry about shipping anything.
Day 1–2:
- Get set up on all tools
- Read the handbook (really - start with PEARL, How We Work, and Company Values)
- Meet your team on a 1:1 call with each person
- Shadow at least one customer call or support interaction
Day 3–5:
- Understand the product deeply. Use it. Break it. Ask why things work the way they do.
- Review the current sprint and understand what your team is working on
- Ask your manager: "What are the three most important things I should understand in my first month?"
Week two and three
Start taking on real work. Start small - pick something that's well-defined and ship it. The goal is to get your first contribution out so you know how the process works and the team can see you in action.
Don't wait to be handed work. If you see something that needs to be done and you can do it, do it.
First 30 days check-in
Your manager will do a 30-day check-in with you. This is a real conversation, not a formality. We'll talk about:
- What's clear and what's still confusing
- What's going well and what isn't
- Whether the role is what you expected
- Your first goals for the next 60 days
Be honest. If something isn't working, this is the time to say so.
Understanding Hardal's product
You should be able to explain what Hardal does to a non-technical marketer and to a senior engineer. If you can't do both after two weeks, ask for help.
Go through the docs. Set up a test sGTM container. Understand the data flow from browser event to Sanity destination. Talk to a customer success person about the most common implementation challenges.
This matters regardless of your role. Everyone at Hardal should understand the product.
Slack channels to join
#general- company-wide announcements#product- what we're shipping#customers- customer wins and issues#random- the only channel that's actually random- Your team's channel
What we expect in your first 90 days
By 90 days, you should:
- Have shipped something real
- Have had at least one honest conversation with your manager about how things are going
- Understand why Hardal exists and who we're building for
- Know which customers are happy and which aren't, and why
If you hit 90 days and feel like you're still finding your footing, that's a signal - either the role isn't the right fit, or we haven't onboarded you well. Either way, let's talk.
