One-on-One Ruleset

1-1 meetings are important and impactful if done right. This is how we do it at Hardal.

The Rules

1. This is the team member's meeting, not the manager's. Team members set the primary agenda and lead the conversation.

2. Status updates are banned. One-on-ones are not for project updates

3. Be consistent. Don't cancel except for true emergencies

4. Come prepared. Bring topics, questions, and challenges

5. No distractions. No phones, no Slack or Emails

6. Manager's role is to help and listen. Not dominating the 1-1s or to solve a problem.

7. Don't wait, initiate. Don't wait for a 1-1, take action and have it asap.

8. Embrace difficult conversations. Don't postpone important feedback, address tensions before they become problem.
