About the Role
At Linear, we are on a mission to bring magic back to software. To empower product teams to do their best work, we are building an issue tracking and project management tool that combines UI elegance with world-class performance.
We're looking for a Head of Security who will lead and own security initiatives across the company. The right candidate has a builder mentality with a strong InfraSec background, and pragmatic approach to proactively improving our security posture. You can expect close collaboration with our product engineering, infrastructure team, and customers facing teams as you lay the groundwork for the function. You'll report directly to our Co-Founder and will have the responsibility to build out the function over time.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive security strategy and roadmap aligned with Linear's business objectives
- Lead security incident response planning and execution
- Implement and manage security controls across our infrastructure and applications
- Conduct security assessments and penetration testing
- Train and educate teams on security best practices and awareness
- Stay up-to-date with emerging threats and security technologies
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure security is integrated into our development lifecycle
- Develop and maintain security documentation and policies
- Establish and track security metrics to measure effectiveness
- Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure regulatory requirements are met
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in information security with a strong focus on infrastructure and application security
- Deep understanding of cloud security principles (AWS/GCP)
- Experience implementing security controls and monitoring systems
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (NIST, ISO, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with security tooling and automation
- Background in software development or infrastructure engineering
- Ability to balance security needs with business objectives
Nice to Have
- Experience working with startups or high-growth companies
- Knowledge of compliance requirements (SOC2, GDPR, etc.)
- Experience building and leading security teams
- Contributions to open-source security projects or research
- Public speaking or technical writing experience in security topics
